abhishek of Ghanshyam Maharaj and annakoot
Last year in the month of January, Ghanshyam maharaj entered Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul Bangalore campus for first time and now he has already been with us for a year with his first anniversary falling on 15 of January 2012 .The Abhishek of Ghanshyam maharaj involved bathing him in various liquids such as milk , curd , ghee , honey , sugar , sandalwood paste , perfume , saffron and after which tender coconut water and many fruit juices such as chikoo ,pomegranate ,sugarcane , papaya , apple , melon , watermelon from some of the holy rivers of India ,was also used in the Abhishek.
Petals cut from 70 types of flowers some of which were roses and marigolds were showered on to Ghanshyam maharaj.
The Aarthi of Ghanshyam maharaj was then done and after which some students who had sponsored the Prasad then distributed to everyone and they dispersed.
Later during the day the Annakoot was proffered to Ghanshyam Maharaj. Annakoot literally means mountain of food. The story behind this is that the people of Mathura considered Mt. Govardhan as a god. Hence, Lord Krishna suggested the people to proffer their offerings to Mt. Govardhan. The people turned up in numbers to proffer their offerings which when heaped together became another big mountain and that is why Annakoot is offered to god.
