At Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Bangalore, Teacher’s Day was celebrated in a unique and joyful way as the students of class 10 and 12 took on the roles of wardens and Swamiji, creating a day filled with fun, laughter, and learning. The morning began with the students who played the role of wardens taking responsibility to wake up all the boys in the hostel. Just like the real wardens, they ensured that everyone got ready and went for their bath early in the morning. The actual wardens, on the other hand, enjoyed switching roles and acted like mischievous students who tried to bunk and delay their responsibilities. Once the boys were ready, the role-wardens led everyone to the temple for morning pooja, where devotion was expressed with great enthusiasm. The role-Swamijis performed the aarti with dignity, while the actual wardens humorously played the part of students trying to sneak away or avoid discipline.

As the day continued, the role-wardens guided everyone to the study room, but unlike the real wardens, they struggled to control the group, as their friends pretended to be playful and restless. Some of the students even acted like they were sleeping in the study room, while the role-wardens tried their best to maintain silence and focus. The laughter and energy of the boys filled the room, making it a lighthearted but memorable morning. Later, in a twist of roles, the actual wardens went to the cricket ground to play a match, taking full advantage of their “student life” for the day. Meanwhile, the role-wardens stayed back to send the boys to class and keep discipline in the hostel, experiencing the challenges of real responsibility.

In the evening, the celebration reached its peak during temple time. The actual wardens, still in their student roles, sang kirtans with the same enthusiasm as the boys usually do and also participated in dhun, bringing smiles to everyone present. The role-Swamijis once again led the aarti with devotion and then read from the Vachanamrut, guiding the students with spiritual teachings. To conclude, another role-Swamiji narrated an inspiring story of Ghanshyam, reminding everyone of the values of discipline, devotion, and simplicity.

This Teacher’s Day celebration was not only entertaining but also full of meaning. By swapping roles, students gained a deep appreciation of the responsibilities their wardens and Swamijis carry every day, while the wardens enjoyed the lighter side of student life. The day brought laughter, understanding, and respect, making it a memorable and cherished experience for all at Gurukul

The moral of the story is that true respect comes from understanding the responsibilities and efforts of others. When we step into someone else’s role, even for a short time, we realize how much dedication and patience it takes to fulfill their duties, and this teaches us gratitude and humility.
