National Sports Day : Gurukulites Join Fit India Movement

I think for me as a parent and administrator, it is always fun to see the intense looks of concentration and intensity on little faces. In the end,smiles prevail!

Every year on August 29, India celebrates its National sports day. The day is celebrated to honour the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand Singh. The day is observed to spread awareness on the importance of sports and daily activities in everyone’s life.

This year, on the occasion of National Sports Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Fit India Movement’. He has asked everyone to take up sports as it has a direct connection with fitness and fitness is necessary for a healthy life. ” Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul International School also joined hands towards this noble mission of Fit India Movement and celebrated National Sports Day with great zeal and enthusiasm “.

I won’t expound on the entire schedule but accentuate on some of the more interesting and newer areas.

Participating in a sport requires passion and dedication, which are the key features for achievement in any field. Encouraging young generation in sports not only provides healthy lifestyle but also improves sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

How is National Sports Day Commemorated?

On this day, achievers in Indian sports are felicitated. Deserving and successful sportspersons are conferred with the Arjuna Awards and Khel Ratna Awards at a special ceremony organised in Ashok Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan. They receive the award from the President of India. Sportspersons from various fields are honoured at this award ceremony. Those who have contributed to Indian sports and achieved fame for the country deserve to be honoured. We need to recognise and reward sportspersons for having contributed to their respective fields. Many schools across the country celebrate their Annual Sports Day on 29 August. This day helps all aspiring Indian sportspersons to know about the various advancements in sports and what all our country has achieved in sports.“Celebrating National Sports Day provides a chance to encourage all kinds of sportspersons “.

Benefits of Playing Sports

Apart from keeping you fit and healthy, sports have many other benefits also. A sport like table tennis improves your concentration and reflexes. Sports improve stamina and strengthen the body. Children who play sports develop sportsmanship spirit. They learn how to work together and cooperate in a team. When it comes to sports, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Playing sports increases a child’s ability to deal with failure. These kids are able to cope better with failure. Sports also help in weight loss. Sports provide a chance for children to showcase their leadership skills. It helps them to develop discipline. Being a part of the school sports team enables your child to make more friends and become a known face in school. There are many sports competitions and events which are held in school and outside school. Playing sports provides an opportunity for children to display their talent and achieve success.

National Sports Day is an occasion to try and spread awareness about the importance of sports. By conferring awards on this day, the government tries to encourage sports and reward the achievers. Try to make sports a part of your child’s daily routine. Playing sports is a very good hobby and it will keep your child occupied. Children nowadays go through a lot of stress in school because of exams, homework, etc. Playing sports relaxes the mind and provides good relief from stress. Multiple events were organized on this Sports day. Class 1 & 2 enjoyed Lemon & Spoon Race, Sack race and many other exciting games. Class 3 to 5 enjoyed Musical Chair and race track events. Class 6 to 10 competed house wise against each other in enticing basketball games. The entire day of 29 Aug in our campus was spectacular and every member of the Gurukul family enjoyed it with great zeal and enthusiasm. Many of the parents who witnessed the day’s events also feel proud to be connected with the Swaminarayan Gurukul organization.
