Dengue Awareness Programme Educates Young Minds

Published On: June 18, 2025

On 18th June 2025, Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul International School, Near Mysore conducted a vital academic event titled Dengue Awareness Programme, aimed at educating students about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of dengue and other contagious diseases. The event was organized as part of the school’s continued commitment to health education and holistic development.

Themed around ‘Awareness About Contagious Diseases,’ the programme saw enthusiastic participation from students of Grades IV, V, and IX. It was structured to provide age-appropriate and practical insights into how vector-borne diseases like dengue spread, and the precautions needed to avoid them.

One of the key highlights of the event was the live demonstration of mosquito eggs and breeding grounds, which served as a powerful visual aid for students. The demonstration helped the young learners understand the life cycle of mosquitoes and why stagnant water can become a potential breeding zone. The students attentively observed and noted down points, showcasing their growing awareness and interest in personal and community health.

The event was graced and judged by the Head Doctor from Srirangapatna Government Hospital, along with the Head Nurses, whose presence added great value and credibility to the initiative. The doctor spoke to the students about the importance of cleanliness, wearing protective clothing, using mosquito repellents, and the early signs of dengue. His engaging session allowed students to ask questions and clarify misconceptions about the disease.

The programme offered students the chance to display their skills in safety awareness, hygiene practices, and community responsibility. Although no specific individual was awarded, the entire group from Grade V was appreciated for their attentive participation and insightful responses during the Q&A session.

This awareness drive was more than just an academic exercise — it reflected Gurukul Mysore’s commitment to nurturing responsible and informed citizens. By combining theoretical knowledge with real-life examples and expert guidance, the school empowered students to protect themselves and educate their families and communities.

The Dengue Awareness Programme was a great success, reinforcing the message that prevention is better than cure, and instilling the value of health consciousness in the leaders of tomorrow.
