On November 4, 2024, Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul International School, Belagola, Near Mysore held an engaging ‘Math in Motion: Multiplication Mastery Through Play’ for Grade 1 students. Led by Ms. Sowmya, the Mathematics Mother Teacher, the event was designed to introduce young learners to the basics of multiplication in an enjoyable, hands-on manner. Through interactive games and activities, students learned to visualize multiplication concepts, understanding it as repeated addition and grouping. Ms. Sowmya creatively incorporated play-based methods, using props like colorful counters, blocks, and interactive charts, allowing students to group and count objects for a tangible multiplication experience.
This immersive approach helped students connect math with real-life objects and processes, making learning enjoyable and less abstract. The activity successfully built a foundation for multiplication, encouraging students to approach math with curiosity and confidence. By the end of the session, students demonstrated a clear understanding of the basics, setting a solid groundwork for future mathematical concepts.
