On 13th January 2026 (Tuesday), our school campus came alive with colours, devotion, and joy as we celebrated Makar Sankranti, the sacred harvest festival, with great enthusiasm and traditional spirit. The celebration beautifully blended culture, spirituality, creativity, and joyful learning, making it a memorable experience for every student and teacher.
The programme began on an auspicious note with the Makar Sankranti Puja, which was a truly enriching and new experience for the students. Traditional sweets were prepared during the cultural programme, symbolizing sweetness, prosperity, and sharing.
A unique and heart-warming moment of the celebration was the presence of a cow and calf in the programme area. The students were amazed and curious, learning that the cow is worshipped on this auspicious day as a symbol of abundance and gratitude. This rare experience brought alive the true essence of Indian traditions.
The festive ambience was further enriched with a melodious song guided by Mr. Yashwant Vishwakarma, creating a serene and devotional atmosphere.
A meaningful speech on the importance of Makar Sankranti was delivered by Class 7 student Priyanka Nath, under the guidance of Ms. Yashodhara Dixit, highlighting the cultural and seasonal significance of the festival. This was followed by a short and informative address by Mr. Pankaj Dixit, which helped students understand the festival in a simple and engaging manner.
The highlight of the cultural programme was a vibrant dance performance coordinated by Ms. Reetu Kansari and Ms. Janhawi Pradhan. The dance beautifully portrayed the cultural unity and rich traditions of Chhattisgarh, leaving the audience mesmerized.
After the dance performance, the Respected Principal, Dr. B. Nagaraja Naik, addressed the students and extended his warm wishes on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. His inspiring words emphasized the importance of preserving Indian culture, respecting traditions, and celebrating festivals with true understanding and joy.
Joyful Learning Through Class-wise Activities 🎨
To make the celebration interactive and meaningful, engaging class-wise activities were thoughtfully organized:
The playground turned into a vibrant sky filled with colourful kites. The little ones of classes 1 and 2, filled with excitement, flew kites of various shapes and colours. The scene resembled a mobile garden of butterflies, creating a truly delightful and heart-warming visual treat.
Students of classes 3 to 5 enthusiastically participated in kite making, showcasing their imagination, creativity, and artistic skills. The activity encouraged innovation and hands-on learning.
With bright colours and creative patterns, students of classes 6 and 7 created beautiful rangoli designs. The activity provided a wonderful hands-on experience and transformed the school environment into a village-like festive atmosphere.
Under the guidance of teachers, students of classes 8 to 10 experienced traditional culinary skills by roasting dry fruits, peanuts, and sesame seeds, mixing them with jaggery, and rolling them into delicious laddus. The joy of making the sweets themselves made them taste even more special.
The Makar Sankranti Celebration was a perfect blend of tradition, devotion, creativity, and joy. It offered students a meaningful opportunity to connect with Indian culture while learning through experience. The day concluded with smiling faces, colourful memories, and a deeper appreciation for our rich heritage.
