Raksha Bandhan at Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul International School was celebrated with a beautiful blend of tradition, compassion, and environmental consciousness, making it a truly memorable occasion across all classes.
In a heartwarming outreach initiative, the students of Classes 7 and 9 took Raksha Bandhan beyond the school walls by visiting Sri Chakradhar Bal Sadan, an orphanage in Raigarh, home to several children including those who are deaf and mute. Guided by the Principal Dr. B. Nagaraja Naik, Manager Mr. Vikas Gupta, and teachers Mr. Dushyant Singh, Ms. Susama Pradhan, and Ms. Ranjini M.K., the students tied rakhis to the children and received them in return — forming bonds of affection, inclusion, and mutual respect. The smiles, gestures, and unspoken emotions shared during the event reaffirmed that the language of love knows no boundaries.
In the spirit of giving, the students also distributed stationery items like notebooks, pencil boxes with complete accessories, and sweets as tokens of love and respect. The joy in the eyes of the children made the gesture profoundly meaningful, leaving an indelible impact on the young Gurukulites who returned with hearts full of empathy and a renewed sense of social responsibility.
Meanwhile, on the school campus, the Kindergarten students celebrated Raksha Bandhan in an extraordinary and eco-friendly way. Under the guidance of Ms. Sanjulata Nayak and Ms. Akansha Verma, the tiny tots tied rakhis to trees — symbolizing not only the sacred bond of protection but also extending their love and promise to safeguard Mother Nature. Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, the little ones created a lively and colorful atmosphere. Teachers used this opportunity to explain the deeper meaning of the festival, instilling values of love, care, and environmental consciousness in the youngest minds. It was a heart-touching gesture that beautifully merged tradition with ecological awareness.
For Classes 1 to 10, a special assembly was conducted during the last period in the school auditorium. Ms. Janhawi Pradhan addressed the gathering, eloquently sharing the significance of Raksha Bandhan and demonstrating the ritual on stage. Her words resonated with the values of sibling love, duty, and togetherness, enriching the students’ understanding of the cultural heritage behind the celebration.
In all, the celebration of Raksha Bandhan at SSGIS this year went far beyond the customary rituals. From forming bonds with orphans to embracing nature and understanding cultural significance, the event touched hearts across all ages, fostering compassion, responsibility, and unity among the students
