Weaving Wisdom When Gurukul Classroom Met the Looms of Gudu

On 22nd January (Thursday), the students of Class 6 embarked on an enriching educational journey to Gudu Village. The visit was conducted under the esteemed guidance of our Respected Principal, Dr. B. Nagaraja Naik, and Manager, Mr. Vikas Gupta, along with faculty members Ms. Ranjini M. K. and Mr. Babaji Pradhan.

​As the Gurukul team arrived, the entire village assembled to welcome us, embodying the true essence of our Indian culture—’ Atithi Devo Bhava’. They treated the students with immense love and care, creating an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality that made everyone feel at home.

​ The Art of the Loom: Discovering the Kapta Saree
​The students had the rare opportunity to experience the intricate world of weaving. The artisans, with great enthusiasm, explained each stage of the process, allowing the students to witness the transformation of simple thread into a beautiful Kapta saree. The students experienced various activities firsthand.

​ Selection of Thread: Understanding the importance of the quality of the thread as the foundation of weaving.

​ Rehtol and Asari: Learning how these traditional tools are used for collecting and classifying the thread.

​ Fuyi : A fascinating look at how to dye the cloth to bring vibrant colours to the fabric.

​ Bhunai and Thanasara : Observing the precision required for arranging the thread in a specific pattern.

​ Ful Dubi: Discovering the delicate art of making the intricate border designs.

​The villagers were filled with joy to see the young generation taking an interest in their craft. They expressed their happiness, mentioning that this was the first time a team had come to explore and appreciate their ancient tradition. Their hospitality and eagerness to share their knowledge left a deep impact on our students.

​This field visit was a perfect blend of cultural immersion and practical learning. The Gurukul students returned with a wealth of knowledge and lots of sweet memories of the wonderful people and traditions of Gudu Village.
