If we go through the life of Hanumanji, then we can find a lot of inspiration and a lot of lessons from the great things he has done as a sevak of god.

Since Hanumanji was born, he was gifted with special abilities as he was the twelfth Rudra, Lord Shiva’s incarnation. So he was doing many things that were amusing to him like taking the ‘kamandalu’ of saints who were doing meditation. Gradually, all the saints discovered that Hanumnaji had powers but no directions as to where the powers had to be used and when there is power without directions, it causes disasters. Observing all this, the saints and sages found out that if Hanumanji is persistently misusing his powers, then certainly he will lose his powers by someone’s curse. So Mathan Rishi has cursed Hanumanji, saying that he will forget his powers until someone reminds him about them. As a result of the curse of Mathan Rishi, Hanumanji lost the memory of all the powers he had. Hence, misuse of powers can bring curses, and the right use of powers can bring blessings. This can be connected to our practical life, too. In our lives, ‘powers’ represent our skills and talents. If our talents are used for the service of society, then we will procure blessings, but if we use them for harassing people and other self-interests, then we will procure curses. It’s just not by ritual that we can decide whether it’s a curse or not. It’s just by the feeling of inconvenience of others regarding the actions we take.
“Show Power to Evils, not Devotees of God”

Sometimes, we see many people having a lot of potential and ability to do something, but they cannot achieve it because they do not believe they can. The same thing happened with Hanuman. When Ravan kidnapped Sitaji Hanuman, a group of vanars, Jambavan and Angath were at the bank of the ocean. Then, the brother of Jatayu, Sampathi, told everyone that Sitaji was in Lanka. Now, the problem was that there was no way of crossing that huge ocean to reach Lanka. Everyone was thinking about their abilities to contribute to the problem of crossing the huge ocean. Even Hanuman was sitting discussing with the other vanar sena about this problem. Then, Jambavan urged Hanuman to leap across the ocean to Lanka in search of Sita. Hearing this, Hanumanji gained his powers back. All this was happening according to the curse of Mathan Rishi. Then, Hanumanji assumed a huge form, leapt across the ocean and reached Lanka. In our life also, we can assume ourselves to be Hanumanji, who had great potential and powers, but he never believed in them, resulting in him being like an ordinary vanar.
“God chooses one for his Mission Whose Powers are wrapped with devotion”

Hanumanji is celebrated in the Ramayan for his unmatched strength and complete devotion to Lord Ram. He was the ultimate servant, always putting Lord Ram’s needs first with total loyalty. He also possessed incredible physical and mental strength, enabling him to perform extraordinary acts. His combination of powerful abilities and selfless service makes him both the strongest and the greatest servant in the epic. Also, when Lakshmanji fell unconscious, Hanumanji went from Lanka to the Himalayas and brought the Sanjeevini Mountain to bring back Lakshamanji’s consciousness. Despite all these exploits, till now, Hanumanji has never spoken about his miraculous acts before Lord Ram. This is the humility of Hanumanji. We can demonstrate humility like Hanumanji’s by performing valuable seva to others without seeking praise for our actions.
“Humility is the biggest ornament of Powerful People”

Till now, Hanumanij has never refused or denied any seva. He always had the ‘Yes Spirit’. Lord Ram’s happiness was Hanumanji’s sole motivation; thus, he would await any seva given in the mission of Lord Ram. Similarly, although we might have many opportunities to do seva, we never realise that seva can bring us liberation, so we tend to refuse it. When our friends call us to some party, we will not refuse it, but when it comes to the matter of god, we refuse it. So if we remove this attitude of refusing seva, then it is sure that we can attain the blessings of God and Saints.
A few points to identify a true sevak:
The Sevak Ideology:

At first, Hanumanji was assigned to search Sitaji. Following this command, Hanumanji went to Lanka and found Sitaji, but nobody told him to burn Lanka, check the weakness of Ravan and go to the Palace of Ravan. He did all this by himself because he knew that he was not a labourer; he was a sevak. In our life also we are assigned some work but we have this attitude of limiting ourselves. So we only do what we are told, not what they are expecting, resulting in not growing in our lives and not getting promotions in our careers.

There’s a short story on Hanumanji that relates to the topic:
When Hanumanji reached Lanka, he came to know that Sitaji was in Ashok Vatika. If he goes directly to Ashok Vatika in front of Sitaji, then she will mistake him for another demon who will try to attack her. So Hanumanji climbed a tree where he could get a good view towards Sitaji and Hanumanji was observing the things that were going on there. Meanwhile, Ravan started threatening Sitaji to marry him and accept him. Seeing this, Hanumanji became very angry with Ravan and also became very emotional. Though Hanumanji had the power of getting Sitaji from there he didn’t because Lord Ram’s command was to get the message of Sitaji from there, not Sitaji. So to get in contact with Sitaji in the night, Hanumanji dropped a ring of Lord Ram. When the ring touched the ground, it created a sound which was familiar to Sitaji. So she looked around and found a golden ring. She picked up the ring and immediately realised that the ring belonged to Lord Ram. Seeing this, Hanumnaji came down in the form of a vanar and stood before Sitaji with his hands folded. Seeing this vanar, Sitaji doubted that he was another demon who came to monitor Sitaji at night. So Hanumanji assumed the original form of himself before Sitaji. Seeing this, Sitaji realised that he was truly a sevak of Lord Ram.

On the battlefield Ravan has released the Nagasthra to Lord Ram. This caused all the snakes to wrap around Lord Ram. When Lord Ram was facing this difficulty, he remembered Garudji who came to save Lord Ram. Seeing Lord Ram being free from the snakes, Garudji thought that because of him, Lord Ram had been saved else he wouldn’t survive. The same incident happened with Hanumanji also. In the night, when everyone was asleep, including Lord Ram and Lakshmanji, a mayavi asur named Ahiravan turned up, and with his powers, he took Lord Ram and Lakshmanji to hell and started offering pooja to a Mataji. He wanted Lord Ram and Lakshmanji to be Bali for some sacrifice. When all this was going on, Lord Ram remembered Hanumanji and there he was in a blink of an eye. Then, with all his might, he took Lord Ram and Lakshmanji out of hell and brought them back to Earth, but in this case, Hanumanji never thought that he was stronger than god; he thought that God had failed for his success. If god had used his powers, then it would’ve never been possible for Hanumanji to do seva for Lord Ram. In our lives, there are some things which saints cannot do, so we do seva of them. To be honest, saints can do it, but if they do everything, then we will not be left with any seva.

When Lord Lakshman was critically injured, physicians advised that it was essential to get the Sanjeevini to save Lord Lakshman. So, Hanumanji was tasked with retrieving the herb Sanjeevini. When Hanumanji went to the mountain, he couldn’t find the Sanjeevini, and on the other hand Lord Lakshaman needed the herb fast. So Hanumanji thought fast, and finally, he came up with the idea of carrying the whole mountain to the battlefield. Here we can see that Hanumanji used his OUT-OF-THE-BOX Thinking Skills. Though he was just instructed to get Sanjeevini, he got the whole mountain.
“Turn Difficulties into Opportunities”

In the whole Ramayan, you might see mostly all the characters having unbalanced emotions, but the only character in the Ramayan and even now that has not cried or got disturbed nor will he get disturbed is Hanumanji. The power which caused Hanumanji to be happy all the time is ‘faith’ in Lord Ram. Sometimes, we might be assigned some work, and if we can do it, then we feel happy and satisfied, but if cannot then we feel sad but Hanumanji never became sad because he knew that his weakness is also a blessing of Lord Ram and his strength is also the blessing of Lord Ram. Since he had so much faith in Lord Ram, he always felt happy in the service he was doing. We even have to ignite the faith towards god like Hanumanji.

After winning, Lord Ram rewarded everyone with important jobs. Sugreev became the army leader, and others got roles too. But Hanumanji didn’t want a position; he just wanted to serve Lord Ram. So, he asked Lord Ram that whenever Lord Ram yawned, Hanumanji would snap his fingers. This simple act became Hanumanji’s way to serve Lord Ram, avoiding any official title. He preferred doing small, meaningful tasks for Lord Ram over having a big job.

Impressed by Hanumanji’s selfless service, Sitaji gifts him a pearl necklace. Hanumanji, touching it to his eyes, began examining each pearl. Confused, onlookers questioned his actions. He explained he was searching for Lord Ram within the necklace. Perceiving this as disrespect, they asked if Lord Ram resided in his heart. In response, Hanumanji tore open his chest, revealing the divine images of Lord Ram and Sitaji nestled within. The awe-struck assembly recognized Hanumanji unparalleled devotion, proclaiming him the supreme devotee of Lord Ram.

As Lord Ram’s earthly Leela ended, the vanaras ascended to Vaikunth. Hanumanji, arriving last, requested a final seva. Lord Ram directed him to remain on Earth, serving his devotees. Hanumanji readily agreed but expressed his longing for Lord Ram’s stories. Understanding his devotee’s devotion, Lord Ram declared that Hanumanji would reside on Earth as long as Lord Ram’s katha resonated throughout the universe. Thus, Hanumanji, the eternal servant, continues his seva, sustained by the enduring tales of his beloved Lord.
Hanumanji’s life is not just a story from the Ramayan — it is a living guide for anyone who wants to live a meaningful, powerful, and devoted life. From humility after success to unwavering faith in God, from fearless courage to selfless seva, every action of Hanumanji teaches us how to align our strength with devotion.
Hanumanji shows us that true power is not in showing dominance, but in serving with surrender. True intelligence is not in ego, but in obedience to God’s will. And true success is not in position, but in pure devotion.
If we adopt even a few of these 12 directions in our daily lives — belief, humility, faith, responsibility, and loyalty to God’s mission — our life will automatically gain clarity and purpose.
Let Hanumanji be your compass.
Let devotion be your direction.
Let seva be your strength.
Jai Hanuman!
The main message is that strength must be guided by devotion, humility, faith, and selfless service. True greatness lies in serving a higher purpose without ego.
It teaches that many people fail not because they lack ability, but because they lack belief in themselves. When we recognize our true potential, we can achieve the impossible.
Success without humility creates ego. Staying humble keeps a person grounded, grateful, and spiritually elevated.
Seva purifies the heart and strengthens devotion. When done without expectation of praise or reward, it becomes a path to inner peace and spiritual growth.
By developing faith, staying responsible, avoiding excuses, serving others selflessly, and prioritizing higher values over personal emotions, anyone can live a more meaningful life.
